How and Why to Apply Weather Stripping to a Door

August 22, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

You can seal air leaks in your home with weather stripping. It’s a great way to cut out drafts without having to rebuild the frame of the door or window. Stripping is very inexpensive, and it’s easy to apply too. Here are some tips and instruction to help you in this project.

Weather Stripping Overview

Weather stripping comes in many forms, and it’s often overlooked when one thinks of upgrades to a home. The truth is that weather stripping insulates your home and adds another layer of protection from heat loss. Weather stripping can be applied to either doors or windows, so it’s a good idea to assess which rooms in your home lose the most heat. Start in those areas and work your way around the house.

For Doors

There are two kinds of weather stripping available for most doors. Self-adhesive foam is good for the top and sides of the door, while you will want a sweep at the bottom. The sweep must be cut to fit your door, then it can be installed by bolting it to the door itself. You will also need to trim the adhesive foam to fit the top and sides of your door.

For Windows

Windows will also require two kinds of weather stripping to be most effective. You will need self-adhesive foam to insulate the frame of the window, and V-channel stripping for the sash. It should be noted that casement windows will only need self-adhesive foam.

Wouldn’t you love to go to Paris? How about to the birthplace of champagne? Or where they make some of the best cheese in the world? Wouldn’t you love to see the French Riviera? When it comes to traveling abroad, though, you may have to wait till the summer if you have a family with kids in school. Many people shy away from this idea because they’re afraid everything will be booked and it will be too busy.

This doesn’t have to be the case though. Instead, why don’t you consider booking early? You’ll pay less and you’ll have more options that way too. Besides, an impulsive trip to France really isn’t what you want to do, is it? That’d be like drinking a fine French wine too fast. Instead, you want to plan on it, then anticipate it, then savor every moment. That’s the right way to drink wine and see France.

So if you want to take a summer vacation France, begin planning immediately. Call a family meeting about where you want to go and then start booking your trip immediately.

Are you ready ski season? How about the best ski season of your entire life? If so, you need to start preparing early or the ensuing season may actually leave you disappointed. It all begins by making sure your gear is in good shape. Does it still fit (it’s ok if you put on a few pounds, after all)? Did anything happen to them while they sat idle in storage? Whatever the case, now is the time to look into this and replace the equipment that is no longer working.

Then you need to start working out and getting ready for the physical toll that will come with this year’s skiing season. You don’t want to pull a muscle or otherwise be unprepared for the challenge ahead, physically.

Finally, you need to start planning for the trips you’ll want to take. For example, maybe you’d like to go with some Colorado church group ski trips. That could be a really good time so long as you plan ahead and organize everyone and everything. Outsource it to the right company and they’ll do this all for you!

Planning a Church Group Ski Trip

What could be more exciting than a winter wonderland? Colorado offers some of the most amazing slopes in the world, and resorts there cater to all skill levels. If you’re planning a church group trip, consider hanging outdoors among nature. Ski trips are affordable and fun, and everyone can bond together.

Determine Availability

The first thing you should do before you book group ski packages in Colorado is whether everyone in your group will have the same availability. Planning a family trip is easier in this respect, because mostly everyone is on the same page. For church groups, float the idea around now and try to gauge interest. It may be helpful to convene a meeting and let everyone debate the availability to help move the process along faster.

Book ASAP

Once you’ve ironed out everyone’s availability for the church group ski trip, book your plans as soon as you can. This ends up working out to your advantage. It gives the resort plenty of time to arrange for space for your group, and it allows you to thoroughly research the amenities offered at each park. You should buy your lift tickets at least two weeks out from the date you plan to take the trip. You can do this now, but it’s best to wait and give your group a chance to check out the options. Try picking your top three or top five and putting those up to a small vote to see which is most appealing.

Secure Commitments

Group skiing packages cost money, and while payment is flexible depending on how quickly you book your trip, it’s best to secure the commitments from your group as soon as possible. The most effective method of doing this is to require a cash or check deposit upfront. If your organization does not already have one, set up an account you can use to accumulate and use these funds to pay for your trip.

Plan Transportation

When you a plan an event of this scale, transportation will always be an issue. IF you’re not local to Colorado, you might have to book flight plans. Make sure you call ahead and see fi you can work out some group rates to get things going. Bus packages and rental vans are another option that can prove to be a fun cross-country experience.
